This is the BEST way to see the sunrise on mount Batur and booking through headout is the cheapest as well. It is so well organized. There is a very good breakfast organized for you after the tour as well in a very beautiful restaurant. Something that's not included in many other packages. Our driver Ridho and jeep driver Agus were very helpful and kind. Totally recommend them. Amazing experience.
Absolutely fantastic experience I will be telling everybody about it in Australia. Ketut was so perfect. He was so good and was so knowledabke and we have the most perfect sunrise photos because of your driver. He was amazing. Thank you so so much
It was such a fun and special experience getting up Mt Batur in a jeep. Weather was great and allowed us to see a really beautiful sunrise. Our guides Ridho and Dipa were so friendly, kind, protective, engaging and knowledgeable which adds to a truly amazing time. This was a great highlight on our Bali trip. Booking on Headout was easy and arrangement with pick up was quickly confirmed even though booking was only made the afternoon before.
It was a surreal experience. We had a great time and our driver Subrata was very good and he took good care of us and suggested us places to visit. It was a fun exciting experience.
Beautiful jeep tour and entrance to the hot springs. I recommend to compress well because the jeeps are open and the temperatures drop. Rapa, whoever took care of the transfer very helpful and good

This isn't your average sunrise viewpoint. Imagine the first light of dawn illuminating an active volcanic crater. The stark contrast between the black lava landscape and the vibrant hues of the sunrise creates a truly unforgettable experience.
Mount Batur offers two distinct ways to experience its volcanic wonder: trekking or a jeep tour. The best choice depends on how adventurous you are, and your fitness level.
This option is ideal if you’re looking for a more relaxed journey, traveling with kids, or have physical limitations. Enjoy a comfortable ride in a 4x4 vehicle. While the jeep tour reaches a slightly lower elevation than the trek, it still provides clear sunrise or sunset views.
If you’re an adventure enthusiast or a seasoned trekker, then the trek might be your perfect match. It's a rewarding adventure that takes you right to the peak, blending views, fitness, and a sense of accomplishment. Be prepared for steep inclines, loose slippery gravel, and an early pre-dawn start. Average fitness is recommended, and those seeking a more leisurely climb might find it strenuous.

Consider these additional factors:
Craving adventure? Hike through the darkness for a sunrise like no other, or chase the fiery hues of a volcanic sunset. Explore the otherworldly black lava landscapes or soak in natural hot springs – the choice is yours. Here are some ways to ignite your inner explorer:
Hike through the pre-dawn darkness and reach the summit just as the sun paints the sky in soft hues. For a different perspective, consider a Mount Batur sunset trek. Watch the sky cast a fiery glow over the volcanic landscape.
For a less strenuous option, embark on a jeep tour around the caldera rim. This off-road adventure offers stunning viewpoints and allows you to access remote areas of the volcano.
Many tours include a simple breakfast at the peak. Savor a warm drink and a light meal while taking in the incredible views and the fresh mountain air.
Descend into the dramatic Batur caldera and explore the otherworldly black lava trails. This lunar-like landscape was sculpted by volcanic eruptions over the years.
Rejuvenate your muscles after your trek with a soak in natural hot springs. Volcanic activity heats these mineral-rich pools. Did you know? The temperature of these springs can vary depending on their location, offering a range of soaking options.
Take a boat ride on the waters of the volcanic Lake Batur, a beautiful crater lake nestled within the caldera. This lake source of life for nearby villages and offers reflections of Mount Batur's peak.
A great way to fuel your pre-dawn trek or to do away with post-exploration fatigue! Learn about the traditional cultivation methods and sample a cup of the freshest local brew, known for its rich volcanic soil flavor.
Journey to the secluded village of Trunyan, located on the shores of Lake Batur. Witness the unique burial rituals of the indigenous people, where bodies are laid to rest in open bamboo cages under ancient Taru Menyan trees.
For a more adventurous experience, explore some of the hidden waterfalls tucked away in the foothills of Mount Batur. These secluded gems offer a refreshing escape and a chance to witness the beauty of Bali's natural landscape.

Nestled in central Bali, Mount Batur offers a stunning escape from the island's hustle and bustle. Here's a quick reference for travel distances and approximate travel times by car from some popular Bali destinations:
Note: While Mount Batur is a popular tourist destination in Bali, it's important to remember that Bali itself is an island. Reaching Bali will require a flight to Denpasar International Airport (DPS), most likely from the Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport - CGK.
Mount Batur is a relatively easy climb, but safety should always be your top priority. Here are some key safety tips to remember:
Choose between sunrise or sunset tours for the best views. Opt for a trek or jeep tour depending on your fitness level. Private tours offer a personalized experience, while shared tours allow you to meet fellow adventurers and are more pocket-friendly. All tours include round-trip transfers, expert English-speaking guides, and a delicious breakfast to fuel your adventure. You can also opt to visit natural hot springs.
If you're looking for a challenge, are moderately fit, and want to reach the peak on foot, then the trek is the way to go. It offers a more hands-on experience with stunning viewpoints along the way. If you prefer a relaxed climb, are traveling with kids, or have physical limitations, a jeep tour is a perfect option. You'll get equally incredible views from accessible vantage points without the exertion of a full trek.
Apart from the gorgeous views, consider your travel style. If you opt for a sunrise tour, it allows you to be back in town by the afternoon and enjoy the rest of your day in Bali. If you have other things you’d like to see or want a late start, spend your day as you please before heading over to Mount Batur for a sunset tour.
Achievable for most with decent fitness, the climb to Mount Batur's peak is moderate. The trek’s about 6km uphill, with an elevation reaching 1717m. The early pre-dawn start for sunrise tours can be a challenge, but manageable with a guide and tools (included in your tour). Consider a jeep tour for a relaxed ascent, especially if you're traveling with family or have physical limitations.
The views from the summit of Mount Batur are incredible. From the top, you'll see the Batur caldera floor with its black lava flows, green vegetation, and Lake Batur, a turquoise lake. On clear days, you can even see Mount Agung, Bali's highest peak, on the horizon.
The dry season (April to October) offers the best chance of clear skies for sunrise views. Peak dry months (June to August) are the most consistent, while shoulder months (September & October) can be a good compromise.
It's possible to climb Mount Batur in the rain, but it definitely affects the difficulty and enjoyment of the trek. The loose volcanic gravel can become more slippery and muddy, making the footing less stable. Clouds and rain might also reduce visibility. If you do plan to trek in the rain, invest in weather-proof clothes, hiking boots, and a walking stick for better traction.
The entire Mount Batur experience, including transportation, trek, and breakfast, takes around 3 to 4 hours. The ascent itself takes 1.5 to 2 hours.
Mount Batur's trek can be challenging if you have mobility limitations. Consider a jeep tour instead and get to see the best volcanic views in Indonesia without the hassle of climbing!
Yes, all our Mount Batur tours include a breakfast enjoyed at the peak or upon descent.
Opt for a jeep tour instead of a trek if you have mobility limitations. Private jeep tours offer a comfortable and personalized experience.
Keep a rain-proof windcheater handy. Temperatures at the summit average between 10-15°C, especially at sunrise, especially during sunrise hours. Dress in breathable clothing. Wear hiking boots and bring a backpack for essentials. It's better to be slightly cool during the climb and have the option to layer up at the summit than to be uncomfortably cold at the top. You can always remove layers as needed during the trek.
